Beth is the owner of the Family Speech Clinic. She is a registered member of the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO). Beth completed her undergraduate work in Kinesiology at the University of Waterloo. After working for 8 months as a Kinesiologist, she attended the University of Toronto, where she completed her Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology in 1993. After working for a year in Hamilton, she moved to Newmarket to work at the hospital that is now known as Southlake Regional Health Centre. While she continues to work part-time with the in-patient team and the Children’s Treatment Network at Southlake, her main focus is the Family Speech Clinic and Family Speech Camp.
Beth has been certified in the Hanen Early Language Stimulation Program as well as PROMPT. She is a Certified Facial Therapist. Beth studied in California to become qualified in Fiberendoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES).
In addition to her work at the Family Speech Clinic and at Southlake, Beth is a Clinical Educator for the Department of Speech Pathology in the School of Medicine at the University of Toronto. She supports the Communicative Disorders Assistant Programs at both Durham and Georgian College.
To complement the Family Speech Clinic programs, Beth started the Family Speech Camp in 2000 as a way to provide children the opportunity to develop their speech and language skills in a dynamic group environment. The natural interactions between children and staff allow them to learn to transition their skills from the clinic environment to everyday situations.
Beth is often heard to say “I love my job because I can make a difference in someone’s life each day!”
Beth lives in Newmarket with her husband and their three children. Beth enjoys running, skiing, highland dancing, coaching soccer, and playing the flute, piano and guitar.
Tina is our Office Manager and is also a Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) at the Family Speech Clinic. She completed her Bachelor of Arts with a double major in English and Psychology from Wilfrid Laurier University. After navigating the corporate world for 10 years in marketing, sales and customer service, she decided to stop working full-time to take care of her three children. While home, each of Tina’s children required speech therapy for various issues, which is when she discovered her interest in speech therapy. In 2013, Tina graduated with honours from Georgian College receiving her Communicative Disorders Assistant diploma.
Tina loves the opportunity to meet, interact and enable the staff in support of all the clients at the Family Speech Clinic. She enjoys spending time with her husband, family and friends, playing with her puppy Charlie and relaxing at her cottage with a good book on the dock.
Tricia is a Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA). She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology at the University of Western Ontario and completed her training as a CDA at Durham College. Tricia has been a part of the Family Speech team since 2009. Prior to her current position as a CDA, Tricia enjoyed working as a volunteer and student instructor at the Family Speech Camp (affiliated with the Family Speech Clinic).
Tricia has experience providing therapy for a variety of communication disorders including, articulation delays, receptive and expressive language difficulties, learning disabilities and autism. She enjoys working with a diverse group of clients, from young children to adults. Tricia is passionate about her work and is committed to helping individuals build strong communication skills.
Alex Fitton is a Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA). She completed her undergraduate studies at Glendon College of York University in 2015 where she graduated with a Specialized Honours B.A. in Linguistics and Language Studies. Alex went on to complete her post graduate studies with honours in the Communicative Disorders Assistant program at Georgian College. Alex’s love of children stemmed from her 4+ years working at a local childcare centre where she learned the value of educating through play. Prior to her current position as a CDA, Alex spent two summers volunteering at the Family Speech Camp alongside Beth and a variety of SLP students. This experience, as well as her 7 week school practicum at the Family Speech Clinic, allowed Alex to gain an abundance of experience providing assistance to children with speech and language needs. Alex also works as an Assistant to Office Manager Tina to ensure the completion of managerial tasks. Alex enjoys the fast paced environment and variety of roles she takes on in the clinic.
When she is not at work, Alex enjoys hiking, dancing and spending time with family and friends. One of her main goals is to be making a difference in the lives of others while promoting strong communication skills.
Alison is a registered Speech-Language Pathologist. She earned her Bachelor’s degree at McMaster University in the Cognitive Science of Language program, and then completed the Master of Health Science program in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Toronto.
Alison received speech therapy as a young child, which began her interest in speech-language pathology, and she has always been passionate about working with children. She is thrilled to be able to combine two of her favourite things in her position at the Family Speech Clinic. Alison enjoys working with children with language, literacy, articulation, fluency, and other communication needs. She is trained in level 1 PROMPT, and early language strategies presented by Hanen “It Takes Two to Talk” as well as in the Lidcombe Program for parents to encourage their child’s fluency.
Previously, Alison obtained practical experience with the Toronto and Durham District School Boards, and with speech and language camps in the City of Toronto. She also volunteered at the Family Speech Clinic and at Camp Inukshuk as a student, and is very excited to be joining the Clinic as an SLP.
Alison is certified with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) and is a member of the Ontario Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (OSLA). She feels extremely fortunate to be helping children to express themselves confidently and happily.
When not at work, Alison is an avid reader, and enjoys hockey and spending time with her family at their cottage.
Nicole is a registered Speech-Language Pathologist. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Honours Health Sciences at Wilfrid Laurier University. Nicole later went on to complete a Master of Health Science in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Toronto. She is currently registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) and a member of the Ontario Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (OSLA). Nicole is trained in Hanen’s “It Takes Two to Talk” program, the Lidcombe program and the Fluency Plus program: “A Comprehensive Treatment Program for Persons who Stutter”, as well as level 1 PROMPT.
Nicole is passionate about working with clients of all ages with a variety of communication and swallowing disorders. She enjoys working with preschool and school-aged children with language, motor speech, articulation, fluency, and swallowing/feeding needs, as well as adults with aphasia, dysarthria, and swallowing difficulties. Nicole is enthusiastic about collaborating with clients and their families to provide excellent communication and swallowing services and is committed to helping enhance the quality of life of her clients! When Nicole is not at work, she enjoys camping, canoeing, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
Michelle is a registered Speech-Language Pathologist. She completed an Honours Specialization in Health Science with Biology at Western University, and went on to complete a Master of Clinical Science in Speech-Language Pathology at Western University. She is currently registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) and a member of the Ontario Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (OSLA). Michelle is trained in Hanen’s “It Takes Two to Talk” program and level 1 PROMPT.
Michelle is passionate about working with clients of all ages with a variety of communication needs. She enjoys working with preschool and school aged children with language, motor planning, and social communication needs, as well as with adults with aphasia and neurodegenerative disorders. She has practical experience working with clients of all ages in both individual and group therapy. She is very excited to lead the Social Skills Groups at the Clinic this fall! While completing her studies, she was assisting in research centered around adult neurodegenerative disorders and their effects on speech. When Michelle is not at work, she enjoys reading, baking, and spending time with friends and family.
Valerie Cavalieri is a registered Speech-Language Pathologist. She completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Education (Primary/Junior) at York University. She went on to complete a Master of Health Science at the University of Toronto. Valerie enjoys working with children with language, motor speech, articulation and early literacy needs. She is trained in level 1 PROMPT. Valerie is a registered member of the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists (CASLPO) and a member of the Ontario Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (OSLA).
Abbey is a Registered Speech-Language Pathologist. She completed her Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Applied Linguistics (Speech and Language Sciences) at Brock University. She went on to complete her Master of Clinical Science in Speech-Language Pathology at Western University. She is currently registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO). Abbey is trained in Hanen’s “It Takes Two to Talk” program. As a high school student, Abbey completed a Co-operative Education Program at the Family Speech Clinic which solidified her passion for helping individuals with communication needs and inspired her to pursue a career as a Speech-Language Pathologist. Abbey is passionate about supporting preschool and school aged children with a variety of communication disorders. She enjoys working with children who have language, articulation, motor speech, and literacy needs. Abbey is dedicated to providing a family-centred approach in order to best support her client’s communication needs. When she is not at work, Abbey enjoys camping, hiking, cooking, and spending time with her two dogs.
Romina is a registered Speech-Language Pathologist. She completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree with High Distinction in Cognitive Science and Linguistics at the University of Toronto. During her undergrad, she was a mentor in various peer mentorship programs, an executive member of her program's student association, and a research assistant on a child language acquisition project-- she and her fellow researchers later presented their results at the national conference for the Canadian Linguistic Association (CLA). She subsequently completed her Master of Health Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Toronto. She served as one of two class representatives for our national association, Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC). During her internships she enjoyed working with populations across the age continuum. During her paediatric placements in schools and out-patient settings, she gained experience with articulation, language, literacy, and AAC. During her adult placements in acute care and rehab settings, she gained experience with dysphagia (swallowing disorders), aphasia, and cognitive-communication disorders stemming from strokes and TBIs. She also completed additional student training in Supported Conversation for Adults with Aphasia (SCA) and the Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSiMP). She is currently registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) and a member of the Ontario Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (OSLA). Romina is eager to support the journeys of those with communication and/or swallowing goals in a collaborative manner, and she is excited to be working with both paediatric and adult clients at the clinic! When she is not at work, Romina enjoys being outdoors (biking, walking/hiking), playing guitar, and spending time with family and friends.
